Grande Meadows
Course Update
July 2, 2020
For someone looking for a game of golf perhaps this lovely photo taken by Vic Lundrigan of Hole #7 on Saturday June 27 will entice you to come to Grande Meadows for the breathtaking views as well as the challenging golf.
The website weekly update is a day early this week as the “old blogger” is going to be away for a few days so there will be no update next week but it will be back for it's regular day Friday July 17.
Members are asked to note that it will no longer be considered a violation of the guidelines to allow someone behind you to play through your group. Just remember to please move off to the side to allow plenty of distance for the golfers to pass through.
The month of June proved to be a busy one for Grande Meadows with many good signs that golf is on bit of an upswing this season including an increase in the number of public golfers out for a round. Grande Meadows is looking at an increase in the number of member golfers across the board this year with a total of 156 member golfers which is up about 10 from last year. This year's members include 104 returning from last year, 29 new members, 10 youth members and 13 student members. As well this year there has been an increase in junior golfers registered from 18 to 32.
Junior Golf
Junior golf will be starting Thursday July 2 at 9 am while Future Links starts Monday July 6 at 5 pm. Junior registration is almost doubled this year while Future Links registration is still open. This year's Coordinators Eric Evans and Jennifer Matthews will have their work cut out for them this summer. If anyone would like to volunteer to help out on either Tuesday or Thursday mornings please call Eric at the Clubhouse at 826-2600, Stan McCarthy at 277-4566 or John Bugden at 891-1744.
Men's Night
Men's Night will begin tonight Thursday July 2. The first 2 Men's Nights will be individual golf from the forward tees with the Hi/Low format deciding the winners. As well the regular 50-50 will take place each Men's Night. The committee is collecting $40 from each golfer to begin the year with the fee each night being $5 for golf and $2 for 50-50. Golfers who wish to may etransfer the money to John Bugden at poppyjohn2017@hotmail.com. If some people do not want to use this method you could give your money to Golf Captain Mike Russell at the course any day.

Golf Course Maintenance
Here's a link to an eye opening article about what it costs to maintain a golf course for a year. If one reads this Golf.com article you will become aware of some of the challenges Grande Meadows has in trying to make sure that conditions are top notch. If one reads it perhaps next time someone complains about slow play, the speed of the green, the length of time to play a round or the condition of the rough that person could reccomend this article to him/her. How Much Does It Take To Maintain A Golf Course For A Year
This week's shoutout goes to our very capable outside staff who under the direction of General Manager Bill Lee has kept the course in fantastic condition during this difficult time. A very big thank you to Peter Myles, Cassie Marshall and Greg Farrell for going over and above to give us the great playing conditions we have experienced at Grande Meadows this golfing season. Here's Cassie raking the practice bunker on the driving range.
All the best and stay safe.
Cheers
Barry
