Perry Stone wins 2022 Match Play Championship

Perry Stone won his first Grande Meadows Match Play Championship recently by defeating Calvin Brenton 2UP in the Men’s Final Match. In  the final Stone took an early 2 up lead but Brenton played steady and fought back to be 1UP after 9 holes. Brenton then won Hole #10 to go 2 UP. A couple of pars on holes #12 and #13 by Stone was good enough to even the match. Stone continued his steady play to go 2UP after Hole #16 while Brenton won Hole #17 to keep himself alive in the match. Both golfers hit the greenside bunker on our second shot on 18 with Stone being able to get up and down for par to win the Championship 2UP. By winning the Match Play Stone becomes the first golfer to win all 4 of Grande Meadows so called “Major” tournaments – having now won the Annual Invitational, Burin Peninsula Open, Club Championship and now the Match Play Championship. Congratulations Perry & Calvin on a great match.

In the playoff round got by Paul Hartson and defeated Barry Stacey 4 & 3 in the semi-finals while Brenton defeated Matthew Hackett and Mike Russell by 1 UP scores to advance to the finals.

Congratulations to all who participated this season and we look forward to your participation in 2023.
