GM Men’s Night Finale Celebrates Another Successful Season
Grande Meadows Men’s Night Finale Caps Off Season in Perfect Conditions
The Grande Meadows Men’s Night Finale was held on a beautiful, sunny, cloudless and virtually windless Saturday morning, with eight teams of four golfers competing in an 18-hole event.
It was, by all accounts, one of the finest days enjoyed at the course during the 25-plus-year history of the Men’s Night Finale.
The competition featured two different formats. Team net scores were used for the front nine, while a scramble best-ball format was played over the back nine. In addition to the team competitions, individual prizes were awarded on every hole, followed by putting and chipping contests to round out the day’s activities.
Following the golf, players gathered for a steak dinner and the annual prize presentation.
The highlight of the awards ceremony was the presentation of the Norm Croucher Award, given each year to the golfer who best exemplifies the qualities of sportsmanship that Norm Croucher represented throughout his life.
Norm, who passed away in 2010, was an avid member of Grande Meadows Men’s Night and was widely admired for his sportsmanship and love of the game. The recipient of this year’s award, as voted on by fellow Men’s Night golfers, was Ben Grandy.
Front Nine — Team Net
Team #2 captured the Low Net competition on the front nine with a score of 136. The winning team consisted of Barry Stacey, Art Cluett, Richard Kelly and Bill Hodder.
Team #7 finished a close second with 138, with Calvin Brenton, Sam Warren, Kevin Pittman and Dave Holloway making up the team.
Third place went to Team #6 with a score of 147. The team included Jerome Spearns, Frank Haskell, Dave Bungay and Bob Brenton.
Team #8 rounded out the top four and consisted of Ben Grandy, Edmund Antle, Shawn Barry and Charlie Loughlin.
Back Nine — Scramble Best Ball
The Best Ball competition on the back nine saw a tie between Team #1 and Team #4, both finishing at -5. The tie was broken by countback, giving first place to Team #1.
The winning team featured Matthew Hackett, Danny Aylward, Al Lewis and George Hooper.
Team #4, made up of Pau Hartson, Glenn Price, Chad Warren and Wayne Stacey, finished second.
Third place went to Team #6, consisting of Bob Hoyles, John Bugden, Dave Kenway and Keith Howse, with a score of -4.
Rounding out the top four was Team #3, featuring Jordan Baird, Graham Lambe, Frank Hodder and Dennis Kelly, who finished with a score of -1.
Individual prizes were also presented for each hole, along with awards for the winners of the putting and chipping contests.
With great weather, competitive golf, good food and plenty of camaraderie, the Grande Meadows Men’s Night Finale provided a fitting conclusion to another successful season.
