Matthew Hackett of Grande Meadows received the Golf Newfoundland and Labrador Outstanding Male Golfer of the Year for 2014. The award was presented at the 2014 GNL Awards Presentation held at Bally Haly Golf and Curling Club on Saturday November 15. It is the first time for a Grande Meadows Golf Course member to receive such a prestigious award.
The award is based on golfers performance at local club championships, invitational tournaments as well as provincial, Atlantic and National golf championships. Click here for a list of the GNL Outstanding Male Award Criteria.
Hackett finished 3rd at the Grande Meadows Men's Invitational in June and finished 2nd in the Grande Meadows Club Championships in September. At the Provincial Championships Hackett finished 2nd in the Men's Mid-Amateur Division and the result allowed him to represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the Canadian Mid-Amateur Championships held at the Barrie Country Club in Barrie Ontario from September 16 – 19.
