Grande Meadows AGM

Approximately 35 members attended the 2020 Grande Meadows AGM held March 12 at Hotel Marystown.

During the meeting Chairperson Clayton Welsh gave his address on the 2019 golf season which ran from May 9 until October 14.

In 2019 Grande Meadows had 145 regular members, 7 junior members, 16 junior golfer, 9 Future Links golfers and 21 corporate sponsors. The weather for the most part wasn't great and as a result green fees were down which also resulted in less revenue for the kitchen and the pro shop. The resulting decrease left Grande Meadows showing a deficit for the season.

Chairman Clayton thanked all those volunteers and corporate sponsors who helped out during the past golf season. He thanked both the Men's and Ladies' Fun evenings groups for their contributions to the course. As well Matthew Hackett and Judy Drake were congratulated for winning their respective Club Championships in 2019. Clayton also gave special mention to Kim Grandy on her election the Golf NL Hall of Fame in the Contributor (Employee) Category.

Reports were then given by the different committees along with the financial statement from Finance Chair John Bugden. (Any member wishing to view Grande Meadows 2019 Financial Statement may do so by contacting the office staff.) As well Finance Chair John presented the proposed budget for the 2020 season.

As a result of the proposed budget members voted to increase individual membership by 2% and $85.00 for the 2020 season. As well the $50.00 members bar tab was eliminated. Most members weren't interested in mandatory fund raising by selling tickets.

It was also noted that the Board was looking into ways to cut expenses including meeting with the Town of Frenchman's Cove, the BPHCC concerning the annual Hospital Tournament, checking out the Grande Meadows Insurance Policy among other things.

Some members expressed an interest in helping out on any committee to look into ways of making the course financially viable.

The elections of officers took place for the following season and Clayton Welsh, Keith Howse, John Bugden, Barry Stacey, Jeannette Lundrigan, Dominic Lundrigan were returned to the Board along with newcomer Stan McCarthy.

Mike Russell is the Golf Captain for the 2020 season.
