Grande Meadows
Course Update
May 15, 2020
Golf got underway Thursday morning at Grande Meadows when Roy George Cluett(R) playing alongside Horatio Cluett (L) teed it up on Hole # 1 on a beautiful sunny and cool morning.
The first lady off the tee for the 2020 season was Jeannette Lundrigan(L) who was accompanied by Marilyn McCarthy (R).
As well on Thursday morning Grande Meadows member Stephen Douglas, retired Canadian Forces member raised the flags to half mast where they will remain for the weekend in honor of long time Grande Meadows Member Ivan Paul who passed away while on vacation in February. Rest In Peace, Ivan.
Grande Meadows is one of the first golf courses on the island to have opened for the season with the course in great shape after the winter. If the weather would warm up a bit hopefully the course will become busy. Even though the first day was cool and there weren't a lot of golfers those who did make it out for a round enjoyed being back on the course. Everyone followed the social distance guidelines and we thank you all for that.
This season will be a challenge especially with all the limited conditions to try and raise revenue to help pay expenses. Any chance you have to use the clubhouse whether it's to buy a pop, tea, coffee or some other item please do so. Your support will go a long way to making Grande Meadows a success.
In the meantime lots of work on behalf of members is happening behind the scenes to try and secure some funding including the small business loan guarantee and the wage subsidy introduced by the federal government. As well GM has applied for and received a JCP project for this summer. However, lots of work has to be done to complete the conditions to have it finalized. As well application has been made for summer students under the student summer jobs program. It is the hope that some or all of those will help us make it through this season.
Grande Meadows wants to show its appreciation to all our first responders and front line workers by offering discounted golf to those people from May 18 – 31. Details to come in the next couple of days. Junior golfers haven't been forgotten and an announcement is forthcoming in the next week regarding how junior golfers fit into the Grande Meadows golfing community.
Grande Meadows Golf Course is offering a reduced membership fee to any person who was not an individual or corporate associate member of Grande Meadows Golf Course in 2019 of $500.00 plus HST which includes RCGA membership. There is also a reduced membership fee for youth 24 and under as well as full time students. Some people have taken advantage of those deals already. If you know of any person who would like to take advantage of this deal contact Kim at 567-0313 or Bill at 277-1101.
All the best and stay safe.
Cheers
Barry
