Golfing Season Coming To An End
As the 2020 golf season winds down we can look back on this summer as being one of the nicest summers to play golf at Grande Meadows since its opening 25 years ago. Despite the perils of the Covid-19 pandemic 2020 has turned out to be one of the best seasons for golf at Grande Meadows in many, many years. Grande Meadows saw an increase in the number of people golfing this summer including members and non-members. As well there was a significant increase this summer in the number of student members, junior golfers as well as Future Links golfers enjoying all that Grande Meadows has to offer. That indeed bodes well for the future of our golf course.
Closing Dates For Course & Clubhouse
The Grande Meadows clubhouse will close for the season at the end of the day on Monday October 12. Please note that the course will still be open to members until Sunday November 15. Members are reminded that there will be no bathroom facilities on the course unless someone happens to be in the clubhouse that day. Members will still be able to get their clubs from the Club Storage area through the rear door using the password coded lock. Please lock the door behind you once you are finished getting or storing your clubs.
Annual Fall Fest 2 Person Alternate Ball Tournament
20 teams competed in the annual 18 hole 2 person alternate shot tournament on Sunday October 4. At the end of the day the modified Don MacBeath scoring system was used to determine the winners. The duo of Jeannette Lane and Marilyn Kavanaugh were declared the winners after carding the highest score of 16 on Hole #'s 4 and 13. There was tie for 2nd and 3rd between the team of Art Cluett & granddaughter Rachel Day and Tracy & Mike Blagdon who both tied for the low score of 8 on Holes #4 & 13. A brown bag lunch as well as many prizes including vegetables were presented at the end of the event. Congratulations and thank you to organizers Jeannette & Vic Lundrigan and Marilyn & Stan McCarthy.
Quote from Carl Hill, a Bally Haly golfer
Carl Hill, a Bally Haly golfer who recently attended his 19th GM Invitational sent the following comment in an email a few days after the tournament. In the email he is referring to his friend Jason Halloran who was also here for the 19th year but unable to play due to an illness. Jason does love coming down and hanging out with the guys for the weekend.
The best moment I had the weekend was on Saturday when I came in and the ladies told me they got Jason from the range and bandaged him up.
We as players have our fun, tell stories and jokes and cuss at the little round ball. However, the last couple of years your staff have gone over and beyond taking care of Jason , while we embarrass ourselves on the green grass.
Their compassion and kindness will not be forgotten. The world we live in today would be a better place if such humanity was shown more often. You are lucky to have them. They are caring and classy people.
Remainder of 2020 Season Special
Any non-member can come and play golf at Grande Meadows for the remainder of the 2020 season while the course is open for $200.00 plus HST. A great deal for any non-member.

Grande Meadows has a promotion for the remainder of the season whereby one person gets the opportunity to have his/her membership paid for the 2021 golf season. Every green fee paying non-member will get a ballot each time that person pays to play at Grande Meadows for the remainder of the 2020 season.

Many thanks to all of you who passed along a word or two to me about the weekly update. I began this with the BOD approval as a way to keep members updated during the early days of the Covid pandemic and with the many positive comments coming from many of you I decided to keep it going throughout the summer. Hopefully someone will do it again next year. I appreciate all you do for the good of the course. Have a great off season and hopefully all of us will be here again next year.
All the best and stay safe.
Cheers
Barry
