Mike Russell wins 2021 Match Play, Kevin Pittman wins Consolation Final
 | Mike Russell (L) won the 2021 Grande Meadows Match Play championship recently with a 1 UP win over defending champion Barry Stacey (R) in a rematch of last year’s final. Russell was 1 UP after the front 9 but Stacey drew even on Hole #10. The next 4 holes see sawed back and forth with the players All Square on Hole # 15. Russell par was good enough to win Hole #16 to go 1 UP. Both golfers parred Hole # 17 and Russell closed out the match on the final hole. It was Russell’s first Match Play title in his 5th trip to the finals. On his route to the finals Russell defeated Terry White 3 & 2, Gus Keating 1 UP and Matthew Hackett 2 UP while Stacey got by Kevin Pittman on the 20th hole, Deon Grandy 3 & 1 and Bernard Dumaresque 4 & 3 to reach the final for the second year in a row. |
 | Kevin Pittman (R) won the Grande Meadows Match play Consolation Final over Eric Ayers (L) on the 19th hole. In another seesaw battle Ayers went 3 UP after 7 holes but Pittman fought back to tie the match on Hole #10. It was back and forth over the next few holes with Ayers going 1 UP on Hole #17 and Pittman winning the last hole to force the playoff. On the first playoff hole Pittman hit a 9 iron second shot to within 2 feet of the hole to make a birdie while Ayers missed his birdie putt. Pittman lost his first round match to Barry Stacey on the second playoff hole but then defeated Wayne Antle 4 & 3 and Edmund Antle 2 & 1 to reach the final. Ayers lost to Matthew Hackett 5 & 4 in Round 1 but then reeled off wins over Gary Smith 2 UP and Eric Evans 2 & 1 to reach the consolation final. |
The 2021 Grande Meadows Match Play Tournament has been ongoing since late June and golfers are now headed to the 4th round in the main draw as well as the consolation round.
Third round matches on the main side are now complete with Mike Russell defeating Matthew Hackett 2UP while Bernard Dumaresque won over Bill Buffett 1UP. Barry Stacey who received the bye in the 3rd Round will now play Bernard Dumaresque in the semi-finals with the winner playing Mike Russell to decide the 2021 Match Play Champion.
In the consolation round semi-final Eric Evans will play Eric Ayers with the winner taking on Kevin Pittman for the Consolation Championship.
Russell defeated Terry White 3 & 2 in his first round match and got by Gus Keating 1 UP in his second round match which went to the last hole tied. Matthew Hackett got by Eric Ayers 5 & 4 in the first Round and defeated Bob Banfield in the second Round. Dumaresque got by Eric Evans 3 & 1 in Round 1 and defeated Brad Russell 4 & 2 in Round 2. Bill Buffett got by Edmund Antle 3 & 2 in Round 1 and won his second round match by default. Barry Stacey got by Kevin Pittman on the 2nd playoff hole to win his first match and defeated Deon Grandy 3 & 1 in Round 2
In the consolation Round 3, MIke Blagdon plays Eric Evans while Kevin Pittman takes on Edmund Antle. Eric Ayers received the 3rd Round bye.
In Round 1 of the Consolation draw, Kevin Pittman defeated Wayne Antle 4 & 3 while Eric Ayers got by Gary Smith 2 UP. Evans & Blagdon moved forward by winning their matches by default.
