Congratulations to Tracy Blagdon and Gus Keating on being elected to the two positions in the recent Board of Directors bye-election. We now have a full complement of Directors for the 2022 golf season.

Congratulations and thank you to Paul Lambe for putting his name forward for election to the Board.

The members at Grande Meadows Golf Course appreciate all your volunteer efforts. Thank you.

For your information there are three (3) nominations for the two (2) Board of Directors vacancies and thus an election is necessary.

The nominees are Tracy Blagdon, Gus Keating and Paul Lambe. Bios are posted below on the Grande Meadows website .

Election will be held from Monday May 8th to Monday May 15th at the Clubhouse. All members in good standing are eligible to vote.

Greetings fellow golfers! My name is Tracy Blagdon and I recently accepted the nomination to become a member on the Board of Directors for Grande Meadows Golf Course.
I have lived in Grand Bank for most of my life and work at John Burke High School as a teacher and assistant principal. My husband, Mike, introduced me to the wonderful game of golf around 8 years ago and I have been addicted ever since!

Golf has enriched my life in countless ways. Not only is golf a great way to stay physically and mentally active, it has given me the opportunity to develop new relationships and create lifelong friendships with so many awesome people. In the past 8 years I have played several courses on the Island and can say that Grande Meadows is one of the best kept courses around and golfers from other areas who have had the privilege of playing our course concur. As members of this club that is something we should all take pride in and appreciate.
This past summer I spent time volunteering with the Junior Golf program and I believe that our youth are the key to the longevity and future success of our beautiful course. Actively instilling a love for the game in our young golfers is essential to ensure Grande Meadows remains a viable golf course to be enjoyed by all for years to come.
As an elected member I will do whatever I can to promote Grande Meadows, highlighting the gem that it is so it will be sustained and preserved for generations to come and also helping it continue to grow to its full potential. I would appreciate your vote when voting commences in the near future.
Thank you for your consideration and see you on the course soon!!

I am currently working on several new books, of which ‘Powers of Attorney’ is almost complete, a website where people will be able to do their wills and POAs, and also do them as courses. ‘The Estates of the Famously Dead’ is a book with stories on the estates of notable people who made bad or unique estate decisions – Leona Hemsley, Marilyn Monroe, Tom Petty, Jimi Hendrix, etc.

‘Financial Planning for Young Canadians’ is in progress.

‘Widows of Radon’ is in progress about the widows of miners in St. Lawrence who had to raise their children as a single parent, some with as many as 12 children. The struggles, the fight for compensation, and survival.

I played soccer in Ontario from 1987-2015 when I left. I coached and managed 3 men’s soccer teams for over 20 years in Ontario. I played hockey, tennis, golf and did a lot of hiking. I have climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and Mt. Elbrus, two of the ‘Seven Summits’.
I was born and raised in Burin/Salt Pond NL. I moved to Ontario in the mid seventies and moved to Western Canada in the mid eighties. I travelled back to the province in the summer months and relocated back to the Rock after retirement in 2019. I spent entire career in retail and manufacturing
management concluding as a regional manager for Western Canada for a large retail chain. I am an avid golfer and served on the Grande Meadows Board of Directors in 2021.

Given that there is now a second vacancy on the Board of Directors with Clayton Welsh’s passing, the voting scheduled for next week is now cancelled. To adhere to the By-Laws, we are reopening nominations for seven (7) days and if necessary a vote will then be scheduled. The new deadline for nominations is May 5th.
