Hackett & Kenway Champions

The 2023 Grande Meadows Club Championships which were held on September 16 & 17 proved to be a Jekyl & Hyde type of affair going from pretty ideal conditions on Saturday to high winds on Sunday which made for tough playing conditions. After the scores were tablulated for both days Matthew Hackett and Debbie Kenway emerged as the 2023 Men’s and Ladies Club Champions, Hackett for the 3rd year in a row while for Kenway it was her second Ladies title. The Men’s championship was a tight affair being decided on the final hole on Sunday. Hackett carded a 73 on Saturday to end the day 1 stroke behind Perry Stone who shot an impressive even par score of 72. Junior aged James Mitchell was in 3rd place with a 78 while Owen McCarthy was in 4th at 79. On Sunday Stone went 2 strokes up after 9 holes but Hackett managed to claw back into a tie on Hole #14 and it stayed that way through Hole #17. Stone bogeyed the final hole while Hackett pulled out a par to give him his 7th Men’s Championship. Hackett’s 81 on Sunday gave him a 2 day total of 154 while Stones 83 gave him a 2 day total of 155 to finish alone in 2nd place. Owen McCarthy finished in 3rd place with a 2 day total of 163 following an 84 on Sunday. On the Ladies side Kenway carded a score of 89 on Saturday for a 7 stroke lead over Judy Drake who scored a 96 while Brenda Foley was in 3rd with a 98. Kenway continued her fine play on Sunday with a score of 92 for a 2 day total of 181 to win by a wide margin over Foley’s 2 day total of 205 and Tracy Blagdon’s 2 day total of 206.

2023 Grande Meadows Match Play Tournament Edmund Antle recently won the 2023 Grande Meadows Match Play Championship with a close 1 UP victory over junior James Mitchell. Antle went up early in the match and Mitchell clawed his way back to make for an exciting finish on Hole #18. Antle and Mitchell were both undefeated throughout the season long Match Play tournament. It was Antle’s first ever Grande Meadows Championship.
