Nikashantess Penashue continued his championship form, again stepping into NLGA history, to become the first golfer in the province’s history to hold both the Junior Boy’s and Men’s Amateur provincial titles at the same time.
Penashue fired a final round of 74 to go with 79-74-80 for a 4 round total of 307 to claim his first Junior Boy’s Provincial title. Penashue, playing from the Amaruk Golf Club in Goose Bay, never relinquished his final round lead, albeit the defending Junior Champion, Devin Pittman matched Nik’s front nine score of even par 36.
Nikashantess added a final nine of two over par 38 to claim the championship cup. Pittman ended up in the runner-up position at a 4 day total of 317. Ian Lehr, from the Glendenning Golf Club shot a final round of 80 with Andrew Smith of the Twin Rivers Golf Club at Terra Nova.
Nicholas Dorey and Eric Evans were the only two Grande Meadows golfers to compete in the Junior Men’s tournament. Both finished well back in the C Division.

The top four boys will represent the province at the 2009 RCGA Canadian Junior Boy’s Championship at the Westmount Golf & Country Club in Kitchener, Ontario the first week of August.
