Bob Banfield captured the 2011 Grande Meadows Matchplay competition recently by defeating Charlie Loughlin 2 up in the final match. Banfield advanced to the semifinals by defeating Joey Smallwood 1 up in one semifinal while Loughlin advanced to the final by getting by John Bugden 4 & 3 in the other semifinal match.
In the battle for third place Joey Smallwood got by John Bugden 5 & 3 for his best finish in the Grande Meadows Match play.

John Bugden won Division A over Stan McCarthy in a playoff after both players tied after round robin play while Charlie Loughlin won in Division B. Joey Smallwood won Division C by defeating Dick Hanrahan 2 & 1 in a special playoff after Hanrahan had defeated Smallwood 3 & 2 to tie Smallwood in round robin and force the playoff. Bob Banfield won Division D with 2.5 points in 3 matches.
This season the organizers came up with a different format which consisted of four (4) Divisions with 5 players in each Division. Each player is to play the four (4) other opponents in that Division in an 18 Hole Round, using the handicaps on the particular day they play.
There will be 1 point awarded for a win and if there is a tie after the 18 holes, each player will be awarded ½ point. At the end of the competition, the winner of Division A will play the winner of Division B and the winner of Division C will play the winner of Division D. The two losers will then play for 3rd and 4th place and the winners will play off for the Matchplay Championship. If there is a tie to determine the winner in either Division, there will be an 18 hole playoff. All Division winners must be decided by Monday August 29th.
