20th Annual Men's Invitational 2017

""Sam Warren of Grande Meadows won the 20th Annual Men's Invitational on Sunday afternoon as he carded a 2 day score of 161 to win by two strokes over 2 time defending champion Matthew Hackett and Joe Drake who both carded 2 day totals of 163.

In strong winds on Saturday Warren fired an 82 on to lead by 3 strokes over Ken Casey and Bob Hoyles who carded 85's while 2 time defending champion Matthew Hackett was alone in 4th after an opening round 86. Sunday dawned to clear skies and low winds which made for a very interesting finish.

Defending champion Matthew Hackett carded a round of 77 on Sunday to mount a charge on Warren while 2014 Champion Perry Stone fired a Sunday and tournament best round of 75 but Warren withstood the challenge to card his own 79 to win by 2 strokes. Joe Drake carded a 76 on Sunday to pull within 2 strokes of the lead but couldn't get any closer. 2010 Champion and one of Newfoundland's best senior golfers, Don Boland of Bally Haly in St. John's also fired a 77 on Sunday but couldn't close the distance on Warren.

Joe Drake of Grande Meadows captured the A Division Low Net with a 141 total while Bob Hoyles of Grande Meadows finished second with a 143 total and Gus Keating of Grande Meadows finished 3rd with a 148 total.

2017 Grande Meadows Club Champion Warren becomes the 4th Grande Meadows golfer to win the Annual Men's Invitational.

""Vince Baker of Grande Meadows won the B Division Championship on Sunday afternoon by 3 strokes over Gary Smith of Grande Meadows and 5 strokes over Richard Kelly of Grande Meadows. Baker staged a big comeback from 6 strokes down on Saturday to pick up his first Divisional win in the Grande Meadows Men's Invitational in 15 tries.

Baker who started Sunday's round in a tie for 6th place carded the low round of the weekend in the B Division with a 79 to go along with an opening day 95 for a 2 day total of 174 while Smith had a 2 day total of 177 from scores of 92 and 85. Kelly carded daily scores of 91 and 88 for a 179 total to finish 3 strokes back.

Kelly won the B Division Low Net with a 2 day total of 147 while Chad Antle of Grande Meadows came second with a 151 total followed by Art Cluett of Grande Meadows in third with a 152 total.

Shawn Keating of Grande Meadows Captured the C Division on Sunday afternoon in a very close battle with Dan Walsh, Ches Kenway and Glen Price all of Grande Meadows. Keating eagled Hole #13 on route to a low round of 90 for the weekend in C Division to finish with a 188 total which was good for a 1 stroke win over Walsh who carded scores of 95 and 94 for a 189 total followed closely by Kenway whose 2 day total was 190 from scores of 98 and 92. Price finished 5 strokes back with a 2 day total of 192 have carded a 95 on Sunday to go along with 97 on Saturday.

Walsh captured the Low Net in C Division with a 141 total while John Bugden finished second with a 148 total followed closely by Kevin Carvery whose 2 day total was 149.
