Grande Meadows
Course Update
August 14, 2020
We have reached the middle of August and summer just keeps on happening. It certainly has been our warmest summer in many years and since there hasn't been much wind there have been lots of great scores posted since the course opened for the 2020 season. Among other things we have had 2 hole-in-ones this year – the first by Bill Hanrahan and the other by Brenda Douglas – both on Hole #3. Let's keep taking advantage of the weather and great course conditions which Grande Meadows has to offer.

Golf Course Road Speed Zones
The Town of Frenchman's Cove have received some complaints of golfers speeding while on the way to the golf course. Golfers are reminded that there are families with children who live there as well as many people who go for walks along the road. The speed limit along Golf Course Road is 15 km per hour. Please obey the speed limit and watch out for pedestrians.
We'll Pay For Your Play In 2021
Grande Meadows has a promotion for the remainder of the season whereby one person gets the opportunity to have his/her membership paid for the 2021 golf season. Every green fee paying non-member will get a ballot each time that person pays to play at Grande Meadows for the remainder of the 2020 season.
Junior Golf & Future Link
Both Junior Golf and Future Links clued up this week after a very successful season which saw membership more than doubled for both programs. Kudos go out to Program Co-ordinator Eric Evans for a job well done.
A note to Future Links participants that this is the final year for Future Links as Golf Canada just announced that the program will be replaced by the a new program called First Tee – Canada. This program is currently available in the USA and a couple of other countries and is being done in partnership with Golf Canada, First Tee and the PGA Tour. The program was recently launched and you can check details in the link below.

Men's Night
Men's Night continues to be very popular among male golfers with over 30 players coming out every Thursday evening to enjoy a round with fellow members. This year golfers book their own tee times from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm. There is a different game each night as well as a 50/50 draw. See Grande Meadows website for all the results.
23rd Annual Grande Meadows Invitational Golf Tournament
The Tournament Committee has scheduled the 23rd Annual GM Invitational for September 25 – 27 this year. The tournament originally scheduled for the second week of June had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Invitations have gone out to other clubs inviting golfers to come during that weekend.
The Grande Meadows Club Championship will now go the weekend of September 12 and 13. Thank you go both Men's Night and Ladies Night Committees for agreeing to those changes.
Please note that the Grande Meadows Clubhouse and Pro Shop are open for shopping and Mulligans Restaurant is open from Thursday to Sunday. Check the Grande Meadows website for open times and the menu.
This week's shoutout goes to groundskeeper Peter Myles who has been a mainstay at Grande Meadows Golf Course since it's inception. Peter has always done a fantastic job making sure the greens, fairways and rough are in impeccable condition. In addition to his groundskeeping chores Peter is sometimes called upon to do other tasks as well. For instance this past week Peter was called upon to rescue some golf clubs that took an unplanned dip into Hole #6. As usual Peter went that extra mile to make sure the golfer went away happy. Way to go Peter!
All the best and stay safe.
Cheers
Barry
