Grande Meadows
Course Update
August 28, 2020
We are approaching the end of summer and the warm dry weather continues. Thanks to Bill Lee and the outside workers for keeping the course in such good conditions. I think most golfers will agree that the greens this year have been the best we have seen in a long time.
23rd Annual Grande Meadows Invitational Golf Tournament
The Tournament Committee has scheduled the 23rd Annual GM Invitational for September 25 – 27 this year. The tournament originally scheduled for the second week of June had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Invitations have gone out to other clubs inviting golfers to come during that weekend. As of today 60 golfers have committed to play the tournament. If registration continues we may have to consider limiting the number of golfers.
Annual Grande Meadows Club Championship
The Grande Meadows Club Championship will now go the weekend of September 12 and 13. Registration is underway and golfers can register by signing up on the bulletin board at the golf course. Registration fee is $40.00 per golfer and registration deadline is Wednesday September 9.
Registration for the Club Championship is going well with over 30 golfers signed up. However, so far we have just 1 lady signed up to play. Hopefully that will change in the next few days as Tracy Blagdon is feeling a little lonely there right now. Come on Ladies – you will enjoy it! Think of it as double your fun on Ladies Night and for 2 days in a row – what a way to finish out the season!!
Four Person Best Ball Tournament
The 4 Person Best Ball Tournament on Saturday August 22 was a great succes with a full field of 15 teams participating. At the end of the day 3 teams tied for first place with scores of 62, while another team carded a 63 while 3 others came in at 64. Countback from Hole #18 had to be used to determine the winning team of Matthew Hackett, Jennifer & Josh Moulton and Tyler Kenway.

Golf Course Road Speed Zones
The Town of Frenchman's Cove have received some complaints of golfers speeding while on the way to the golf course. Golfers are reminded that there are families with children who live there as well as many people who go for walks along the road. The speed limit along Golf Course Road is 15 km per hour. Please obey the speed limit and watch out for pedestrians.
We'll Pay For Your Play In 2021
Grande Meadows has a promotion for the remainder of the season whereby one person gets the opportunity to have his/her membership paid for the 2021 golf season. Every green fee paying non-member will get a ballot each time that person pays to play at Grande Meadows for the remainder of the 2020 season.
Please note that the Grande Meadows Clubhouse and Pro Shop are open for shopping and Mulligans Restaurant is open from Thursday to Sunday. Check the Grande Meadows website for open times and the menu.
This week's shoutout goes to our Management team of Bill Lee and Kim Grandy-Baker. In a season that has presented many challenges both Bill and Kim have risen to the occasion to make sure that Grande Meadows ran as smoothly as possible. From the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic to the challenges presented by a long hot & dry summer, Kim and her staff made sure that the Clubhouse ran smoothly while Bill along with his team of workers has kept the tee decks, greens and fairways in impeccable condition. A big Thank You to you both Bill and Kim! |
All the best and stay safe.
Cheers
Barry
