Stacey & Foley Win B. P. Open Titles
Barry Stacey of Grande Meadows won his 3rd Burin Peninsula Open Golf Championship on Saturday by carding a score of 78 to win by 2 strokes over Perry Stone and Mike Blagdon who both play out of Grande Meadows and finished with scores of 80. Evan Whyte finished one back in 4th place with an 81 while Jason Ryan of Bally Haly rounded out the top 5 with an 82. Stacey’s two previous wins came in 2012 & 2013. Stacey and Blagdon finished the front 9 with identical scores of 37 while Whyte was 2 back at 39. Stone and Ryan were 6 of the pace with 9 holes scores of 43. On the back 9 Stone was low with a 37, Ryan second with a 39 but couldn’t close out the gap on Stacey whose 41 allowed him to win by 2 strokes. | |
In a very close Ladies Division Brenda Foley carded a score of 97 to win her first Burin Peninsula Open Ladies title by 1 stroke over Debbie Kenway who finished with a score of 98. Judy Drake followed in 3rd with a 99 while Tracy Blagdon was alone in 4th with a 103 total. Marilyn McCarthy rounded out the top 5 with a score of 107. Kenway had a narrow 1 stroke lead over Drake after 9 holes whole Foley was 5 strokes off the pace. Foley got her game together on the Back 9 to finish with a very respectable 45 including a great par on Hole #18 to eke her first title. | |
In Men’s Division 1 Stone defeated Mike Blagdon on the 3rd playoff hole to win the Low Gross over Blagdon while Whyte was 3rd followed by Ryan in 4th. | |
Stacey’s 78 won the Over 65 Division by 5 strokes over Bob Hoyles who finished second with a score of 83 followed by Gus Keating, Ray Walsh & Glen Picco who finished in a tie for 3rd with scores of 85. | |
Noel Doyle won the Division 1 Low Net with a score of 70 while Al Lewis won the Over 65 Low Net with a similar score of 70. Marilyn McCarthy won the Ladies Low Net with a score of 74. |

The 16th Annual Burin Peninsula Open Golf Tournament is set to go on Saturday morning July 22 with the first tee off at 8:00am with defending Champion Sam Warren first off the tee. A total of 39 golfers competing in 3 Divisions – 2 Men’s and 1 Ladies – will compete for prizes over 18 holes of stroke play followed by a lunch and a putting contest in aid of Junior Golf.

Format: 18 Holes Stroke Play – Shotgun Start at 8:00am
