Hackett Captures Grande Meadows Invitational

Matthew Hackett of Grande Meadows held off Ryan Holwell of Bally Haly to win the 2024 Grande Meadows Invitational Golf Tournament on Saturday. It was Hackett’s 6th win in Annual Tournament. Hackett and Holwell carded scores of 74 on Saturday to share the lead but Hackett carded an 81 on Sunday to Holwell’s 82 to win by the slimmest of margins, 1 stroke. Hackett had a 2 day total of 155 to Holwell’s 156. Mike Blagdon of Grande Meadows finished in third place with a two day total of 156 from scores of 77 & 79. Judy Drake of Grande Meadows won a very competitive Ladies Division with a 2 day total of 191 to win by 5 strokes over Tracy Blagdon’s 196 having carded scores of 98 both days. Debbie Kenway finished 3rd with a 200 total from daily scores of 101 & 99. Janine Fraser of Twin Rivers Golf Course finished in 4th with a 206 having carded scores of 101 & 105. Ray Gushue of Bally Haly won the B Division with a 170 total to win over Jerome Spearns of St. Lawrence by 1 stroke. Gushue carded scores of 86 & 84 while Spearns had daily score of 81 & 90. Gerald Rockwood of Bally Halywas alone in 3rd place with scores of 87 & 86 for a 173 total. Doug Fry of the Willows won the C Division with a 184 total from scores of 91 & 93. Wayne Butler was in second place with a 192 total from scores of 96 & 96. Eric Ayers of Grande Meadows was in 3rd place with daily scores of 98 & 96 for a 194 total. John Bugden captured the D Division with a 180 total from scores of 88 & 92 to win by 5 strokes over Dan Walsh who carded daily scores of 89 & 96 for 185 total. Art Cluett finished in 3rd place with a 190 total having carded scores of 92 & 98. All three golfers are Grande Meadows members.

Holwell and Hackett Share Lead!

Ryan Holwell of Bally Haly and Matthew Hackett of Grande Meadows share the lead after Day 1 of the 27^th Grande Meadows Invitational. Both golfers carded rounds of 74 on a great day for golf in Frenchman’s Cove. Mike Blagdon of Grande Meadows was in 3^rd place just 3 strokes back with a score of 77 while Mike Russell of Grande Meadows followed in 4^th place with a score of 78.

Jerome Spearns of St. Lawrence carded an 81 to lead the B Division by 5 strokes over Ray Gushue of Bally Haly and Al Lewis of Grande Meadows who both finished with scores of 86. Jim Southwell of Pitcher’s Pond and Gerald Rockwood of Bally Haly were 1 stroke back in a tie for 4^th with scores of 87.

Doug Fry of the Willows fired a low round of 91 to lead the C Division by 5 strokes over Wayne Butler of Jack’s Pond and 6 strokes over Derek Button of Torbay. Eric Ayers and Dick Hanrahan of Grande Meadows and Harold Porter of Stephenville were all tied for 4^th having carded scores of 98.

John Bugen of Grande Meadows fired an 88 to lead the D Division by 1 stroke over clubmate Dan Walsh and 4 strokes over Art Cluett also of Grande Meadows. Greg Hillier of St. John’s followed in 4^th at 110.

The Ladies Division saw a very tight race with Tracy Blagdon and Judy Drake of Grande Meadows shooting scores of 98 followed closely by Janine Fraser of Twin Rivers Golf Course at Terra Nova and Debbie Kenway of Grande Meadows just 3 strokes back with scores of 101.

It makes for an exciting finish tomorrow.
