Owen McCarthy Wins Annual Invitational

Owen McCarthy captured his 3rd Grande Meadows Invitational Tournament title on Sunday winning the rain shortened 28th Annual Invitational with a 27 hole total of 114. McCarthy carded a round of 76 on Saturday and finished with a 38 on a wet Sunday morning. He had previously won the Invitational in 2006 and 2023.


Craig Hiscock of Grand Meadows had a lowest 9 hole round of the weekend on Sunday when he carded a 37 which was good enough to give him second place with a 120 total having posted an 83 on Saturday. Defending champion Matthew Hackett was 3rd with a 121 total from a round of 80 on Saturday and a 41 on Sunday.


Bob Hoyles won the B Division with a 27 hole total of 127 having posted a round of 81 on Saturday followed by a 46 on Sunday morning. Calvin Brenton was 4 strokes back with a 131 total from 83 on Saturday and a 48 on Sunday. Ches Cribb’s 132 total was good enough for 3rd place while Derek Button was 1 stroke back in 4th place with a 133 total. Cribb’s total came from an 85 on Saturday followed by a 47 on Sunday while Button’s 133 total came from 91 on Saturday and 42 on Sunday. 


Wayne Butler won the C Division with a 144 total from daily scores of 100 and 44. Dick Hanrahan finished second with a total of 147 after shooting 94 on Saturday and 53 on Sunday. Stan McCarthy’s 153 was good enough for 3rd place with scores of 107 and 46.


Art Cluett won the D Division with a 143 total from scores of 85 and 48.


Lacey Cribb outlasted Tracy Blagdon to win the Ladies Division. Cribb had a 127 total from daily scores of 81 and 46 while Blagdon had scores of 92 and 57 for a 149 total.

Day One June 7 Wrapup

Two time Grande Meadows Invitational winner Owen McCarthy from The Wilds carded a low round of 76 to lead the Men’s A Division after Day 1 of the 28th Invitational. Defending champion Matthew Hackett along with Mike Russell are tied for 2nd 4 shots back after posting rounds of 80. Ken Casey sits alone with 4th place having carded a round of 84.

Grande Meadows golfer Bob Hoyles posted a round of 81 to lead the Men’s B Division by 2 strokes over Calvin Brenton’s 83 while Ches Cribb sits 4 strokes back having posted a round of 85. Tony Mitchell and Bob Banfield sit one stroke behind Cribb having carded scores of 86. All golfers are from Grande Meadows.

Dick Hanrahan of Grande Meadows leads the Men’s C Division after posting a score of 94 to lead by 3 strokes over Tom Burry of St. John’s who carded a score of 97 while Neil Smith and Bernard Parsons of St. John’s sit 5 strokes behind the leader having rounds of 99.

In the Men’s D Division Art Cluett of Grande Meadows carded an 85 while Wayne Antle also of Grande Meadows came in with a score of 99.

Int the Ladies Division Lacey Cribb posted a score of 81 to lead over Tracy Blagdon who came in with a score of 92. Both ladies are from Grande Meadows.

Sunday’s round is in jeopardy as the forecast is for heavy rain most of the day. Hopefully the weather will be good enough to get in part of the round at least.
