Erin Lundrigan – NL’s Best Female Golfer

""

Since it’s beginning, the Grande Meadows Junior Golf program has developed many fine you male and female golfers who have gone on to win provincial golf championships, both junior and amateur. As well many have represented the province at many Canadian Junior and Amateur Golf Championships.
None has had as much success as Erin Lundrigan of Burin. Along with her older sister, 19 year old Lundrigan who has always been very athletic joined the Grande Meadows Junior golf program at the age of 10. She stuck with the program while her sister moved on to other things.
At the age of 16 Erin won her first Junior Club Championship in 2007 and also won her first Junior Provincial Championship in that same year.  To show that it wasn’t a fluke Lundrigan won both titles in 2008 and again in 2009. To further cement her title as “The Best Lady Golfer” in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Lundrigan also won the Provincial Ladies Amateur title in 2009 and followed that up this July with her second straight Ladies Amateur Championship.
Lundrigan represented NL at 5 straight Junior National Golf Championships from 2005 in Cobble Hill, BC, 2006 in Bathurst, NB, 2007 in London, ON, 2008 in Winnipeg, MB and 2009 in Hampton, NB. She has also represented NL at the Ladies Amateur Nationals in 2008 in Winnipeg, MB, 2009 in Moncton, NB and 2010 in Kingsville, ON.
Those accomplishments are quite amazing for the young 2009 Marystown Central High School graduate who completed her first year of University at MUN in April 2010. Lundrigan has enrolled at the University of New Brunswick this September to begin her studies towards a degree in Chemical Engineering.
Lundrigan says, “I owe a lot of my success to my parents who have always supported and never pressured me. As well I owe a lot to my coach, Jim Stick who has worked patiently with me as a junior and as an amateur.” Erin also would like to thank Burin Pharmacy for their sponsorship and continued support of her golfing endeavors.
She also shows her appreciation to her fellow club members, “The older girls at the club led me to play provincials and my years playing as a member of the Newfoundland team were some of the best of my life. Golf has allowed me to travel all over the country and meet people I never would have had the chance to. I am very appreciative of the opportunities I have been given through golf, and hopefully one day I will be able to give back.”
As for her future plans regarding golf, Lundrigan says, “I plan on competing in Provincial tournaments and representing the province for as long as I can. I am always striving to improve my game and hopefully that will continue to do so in the years to come.”
She lists Twin Rivers Golf Course as her favorite NL course to play while her favorite course outside the province is Arbutus Ridge, Cobble Hill, British Colombia, the site of her first Junior Nationals in 2005. This course is on Vancouver Island.
