11th Grande Meadows Bally Haly Challenge

Bally Haly broke a 10 year losing streak in the 11th Annual Grande Meadows Bally Haly Ryder Cup style challenge by edging the home team 13.5 points to 12.5 points. Bally Haly led 7.5 to 5. 5 after the Front 9 Four Ball Matches and Grande Meadows couldn’t overcome despite winning the Back 9 matches 7 to 6. Bally Haly Captain Carl Hill accepted the Challenge trophy.

The 11th Annual Grande Meadows Bally Haly Ryder Cup Challenge being held Friday June 11 in the afternoon. This year 52 golfers are taking part and it looks like Bally Haly Team Captain Carl Hill has put together a formidable team this year including 2008 Invitational Champion Colin Budgell and 2010 Champion Don Boland. Hill is also looking to such reliable golfers as his brother Edgar, Wayne Gray and Bernie Halloran to bring Bally Haly it’s first Challenge title.

However, Grande Meadows team captain Barry Stacey has defending Invitational champion Matthew Hackett leading his team along with former winners Sam Warren and Perry Stone as well as veterans Bob Hoyles, Ches Cribb and newcomer Eric Power bolstering his team as they look for their 11th straight Challenge victory. It makes for an interesting afternoon of golf at Grande Meadows.

This year’s format will be Four Ball Better–Ball. The two players on the team each play their own ball throughout the round. The low score, or better ball, among the two on each hole is the team’s score for that hole. The team with the lowest individual player score wins that hole

There will be 2 points available to win during the match. 1 point will be awarded to the winner of the front 9 and 1 point to the winner of the back 9. If a match is halved 0.5 point will be awarded to each team.
